General condition and any additional information

Salacia is a 1987 Freedom 28 sloop (hull 19 of 52) designed by Gary Mull.

Like all Freedoms, Salacia has a freestanding carbon fiber mast and balsa-cored hull and deck. (The vessel was built under contract by TPI Inc of RI, builders of J/Boats. If there was ever a company that builds cored hulls right it is TPI.)

On deck the most notable feature is the lack of standing rigging. Shrouds? Nope. Backstay. Nada. The only standing rigging is the headstay and that is present only to support the self-tacking Camberspar jib. The lack of standing rigging makes for very spacious side decks and facilitates movement fore and aft.

I can not stress enough how easy Salacia is to handle. Tacking comprises simply turning the wheel and trimming the sails a bit. You don’t even have to put down your drink. The boat motors very well and backs like a dream.

Salacia easily keeps up with larger boats, especially off the wind where she can be sailed wing-on-wing with no effort. She motorsails equally well.

Below decks, Salacia is remarkable for her sense of openness and elbow-room. Once again, the lack of standing rigging creates a wide open feel down below as there is no supporting structures for the rig. It is also very quiet due to the cored hull and decks. She does not squeak or rattle when underway even in rough conditions.

I am selling Salacia because I am looking to move up to a larger boat. She has been trouble free in the nine years i have owned her and will give her new caretaker many years of pleasure.

Winter storage is paid through May 2010. Make her yours today!
