General condition and any additional information

This boat has travelled from the Florida Panhandle to St Augustine and back several times through the Okeechobee Waterway and around the Keys and even to Cuba. It was purchased with the Great Loop in mind (deck stepped mast) but plans have changed and now this well maintained boat with lots of upgrades is available for the first time in over 10 years. Current owner has documented all maintenance and travel since purchased in June 2011, and has lived aboard since Apr 2019. This vessel has no liens and is currently USCG documented.

The boat is located at a slip in a marina with parking within one mile of downtown St Augustine with an assumable slip, an incredible deal in St Augustine. All systems are in great shape. Many extras are included on this sail away ready boat, and additional photos provided upon request. JD Power NADA Value Report for St Johns County as of 10/5/21 is $57,900. Asking $38,500.

Needs new prop (current one works but damaged from electrolysis), engine compartment blower (inoperable), and water heater needs replaced (works but has very slow leak).

Standard features

This Hunter 290 is a great cruiser with a wide beam and lots of interior and exterior living space with potential for coastal cruising or even island hopping that’s well equipped just in time for the beautiful Florida fall and winter sailing seasons! Features include amenities not found on larger boats like 62 headroom, two private staterooms, navigation station, stand up head with shower, full service galley, large salon with a dinette that converts to a berth, accented with beautiful hardwood and plenty of storage! Multiple hatches and portlights with screens offer excellent ventilation. The diesel sips fuel (1/3 gal/hour), and the bridge friendly mast height and shallow draft winged keel allows for exploring places big boats cant go. She performs well on any point of sail, and is very responsive to input from sail trim and helm.

The Hunter 290 has a large bimini-shaded cockpit that allows guests to participate or kick back and relax. Closed cell cockpit cushions make seating comfortable while Cadet Gray Sunbrella covers protect the helm and life sling from the elements when not in use. The stern rail seats with built in drink holders offer the best view in on the boat. The Bose speakers mounted under the stern rail seats provide great sound while remaining out of the way, and the wired stereo remote allows for control of the music without leaving the cockpit.

The pedestal houses instruments, steering wheel, engine controls, compass, drink holders, twin drop down tables that allow for cockpit dining, and there is plenty of storage under the seating. The helm seat hinges aft, leading onto the walk-through “sugar scoop” transom complete with a retractable stainless steel swim ladder with a cockpit shower for rinsing in hot or cold fresh water. Above the cockpit is the integrated arch where the mainsheet and traveler attaches. This layout keeps the cockpit clear, uncluttered, and ready for action.

The Hunter 290 has a large Edson steering wheel with rack and pinion steering, composite rudder with steel shaft, and two self-tailing cabin-top winches. The roller furling genoa and roller furling in-mast Selden mainsail make for easy single handed sailing. Draft is a 4’5” winged lead keel. The B and R fractional rig with its swept-back spreaders eliminates the need for a backstay. All running rigging is led aft to the cockpit to make things easier for a shorthanded crew. Going forward, the nonskid side decks are easy to maneuver due to the innovative rig.
